Halloween is creeping up on us, so in the spirit of things we thought we'd take a little walk on the dark side of design and put together a series of spellbinding ways to showcase how bold, dark colour palettes can be thoughtfully and magically used in design, and how dark interiors can create not only moody and dramatic spaces, but also surprisingly calming ones.
A SPELL TO BE BOLD
Don't be scared of using dark colours to help control light and create mood. Add lighter and brighter artworks and accessories for added contrast . . .
A SPELL TO BE GLAMOROUS
Use reflective surfaces such as glass and mirror with clever lighting to create spaces with movement and intriguing reveals . . .
A SPELL TO BE DRAMATIC
Delineated spaces such as dark entry lobbies that open up to brighter and more neutral spaces create a wonderful sense of journey and drama as you move through the home . . .
A SPELL TO BE BALANCED
Consider when the home is going to be most in use. For night owls, creating a dark and moody environment to entertain can be a powerful statement and often paramount to satisfying that magical work/life balance . . .
A SPELL TO BE INTIMATE
Use dark colours and luxurious textures to create intimacy and luxury in a bedroom space which is conducive to rest and restoration . . .
