On 8 March we celebrated International Women's Day and our Instagram feed, news channels, social media content, events and workplaces were abuzz with inspiring stories worth sharing that spoke of gender equality, equal pay and women's rights.
Whilst we work in a largely female dominated industry, we are surrounded by the architecture and construction industries, for example, where gender remains an issue in areas such as equal pay. The world of interiors may be dominated by women as is the case with our exemplary team at Alexandra Kidd Design (six incredible women plus the wonderful Stuart!), but we still believe it is necessary to pause and celebrate stories of success, bravery and leadership for all women.
We were extremely proud to see Alex included in Belle's Designing Women shortlist, alongside some of the most talented designers in the country such as Megan Morton, Hannah Tribe, Sarah Davison, Sue Carr, Fiona Lynch, Meryl Hare, Sarah Jane Pyke, Juliette Arent, Clare Cousins, and Briony FItzgerald, just to name a few.
The groundswell of activity surrounding International Women's Day extends well beyond the officially designated date of 8 March and has prompted month-long events and continuing conversations that honour social, economic, cultural and political achievements.
We have curated a gallery of our favourite projects below from Belle's Designing Women (all having been featured in Belle) which we hope will inspire you to seek out your female role model and mentor.
Here's to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.
