A GLIMPSE OF MAISON&OBJET PARIS 2017: JANUARY EDITION

The January edition of MAISON&OBJET is always quieter than the highly anticipated Fall edition in September, however it has always been one of my favorite trade shows. Not only because it highlights the important current trends but it defines the direction and sets the tone of the design industry for the year ahead.

Now that I am Sydney-based, sadly I am too far from France to be able to visit the M&O easily these days, however I still have some very handy local design eyes back home to give me an intimate insight into this year’s show.

I have hand-picked my MAISON&OBJET January edition loves just for you!

Playful and minimalist shapes dictate that new modernism is a trend that will evolve in 2017. French brand Petite Friture is the perfect example of this geometric love.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: SO MUCH POTENTIAL

We have started the renovation of an old terrace in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, and it will come as no surprise to say that our lovely clients home was probably the worst house on one of the best streets.

Before. We are so happy to say goodbye to the painted red brick façade.

Not long after moving in our clients began dreaming about how to create their dream family home, so the wheels were set in motion to turn their ugly duckling into a swan and live their happily ever after.

Demolition is always a bit dramatic but we love it when everything gets turned inside out and after months of planning progress is finally being made!

The house had not been maintained in a very long time so before we could even think about beautifying it, we had to go far beneath the surface and deal with underlying damp issues, poor sound and weather insulation, falling down external retaining walls . . . this was definitely not an ideal place to raise two young children!

It’s time to resolve all the footings to make sure we build the new home on solid ground.

Our clients were ready to give their terrace some major TLC inside and out to bring their dream home to life and make it the best house on the street.

Slowly and carefully the shell of the house is revealed.

Today, the only things remaining at the back part of the house is the shell of the original structure and a whole heap of potential.

Steel pillars have been erected to hold up the rest of the house.

And sometimes beneath all the rubble and dust, and after peeling away layers and layers of history, we find a surprising story wanting to be told.

A very special moment where the house reveals its hidden secrets including this very bright and original hand painted floral wallpaper in a bedroom!

WELCOME HOME!

We are thrilled to welcome home our gorgeous clients and their young family, who recently moved back into their now-dream home on Sydney’s North Shore.

We first introduced you to this charming family six months ago, not long after their highly anticipated demolition day finally arrived.

While we can’t reveal the final results just yet, we are so excited to share some of the amazing progress that has taken place over the past few months.

The exterior of the home was significantly remodelled to allow for balconies off the living spaces. Now opening directly onto the courtyard and garden entertaining area, the new design achieves the perfect indoor-outdoor flow.

The traditional federation style of the home was retained to stay in keeping with the original architecture of the home and suburb aesthetic.

The old rumpus room has been transformed into a family friendly entertainment hub, complete with ample storage and all the comforts of a beautiful yet liveable family home.

One of the most dramatic spaces to transform was the kitchen and dining area, where walls were removed and reimagined to create a completely open floor plan.

The addition of new timber floors, marble bench tops, appliances and lighting strike the perfect balance for a functional yet timeless space appropriate for a growing young family, as well as entertaining for many years to come.

We look forward to sharing the final images once all the furniture and accessories have been installed.
