ALL WRAPPED UP: AKD LOVES FIGHTING THE WINTER BLUES

With the coldest month of the year under way, we have become accustomed to keeping a low profile and staying in as much as possible. The urge to hibernate is primal, especially when a case of the winter blues strikes, so why fight it?

What we can fight, however, is the unwanted downbeat feeling that often comes hand in hand with the colder months. The way we see it, the waning sunshine and shorter days offer up the perfect excuse to add warm layers via uplifting fabrics to our interiors, as we swap our busy social calendar for some much-deserved mid-year downtime indoors.

From sunny hues and playful themes that brighten up the darker days to comforting classical textures that offer a warm embrace, we’ll be cosy and content wrapped up in the very best winter fabrics this season.

The 'idylle a Rio' printed linen fabric by Misia portrays a luxuriant and exuberant jungle in the style of the French artist Henri Rousseau, known as 'Le Douanier' (the customs officer). The pattern and colour palette gives a sophisticated wintry twist to the palm print we often see in summer.

AKD LOVES A WINTER WEEKENDER

If, like us, you are feeling the winter chill that seems to just be setting in but aren't able to escape to the European summer, there is hope much closer to home (no passports needed).

Why not take the stress out of planning an international romp with those long haul flights, potential delays and subsequent missed connections, inevitable jet lag, juggling logistics, typical technological failures and an out of control inbox upon returning to the office (!) by embracing a winter weekender instead?

Now is the perfect time to book a mini-break and indulge in some much-needed mid-year R&R, whilst also warming up from the inside out with good food, fine wine, an open fire, spa treatments, a heated hot tub or an eviable view.

What's not to love?

KEEP WARM AND CARRY ON

Simon and Garfunkel sang ‘Seasons change with the scenery’, but in the world of interiors, our scenery changes with the seasons.

As the temperature begins to drop and the sun starts sinking lower in the sky, we’re swapping our lightweight linen sheet sets for their woven woolly counterparts, our open toed slides for closed in (furry!) slippers, and our slip dresses for dressing gowns.

At AKD, we spend our days helping people to emotionally connect with their surrounding spaces by adding layers of warmth and texture in their homes. This is even more important as we begin to spend more time indoors, enjoying, entertaining in, and engaging with our interior spaces.

So, whether we’re adding layers to wear, to sit or to stand on, to breath or to bathe in, to have or to hold, or to simply snuggle under, we’ll be keeping warm and carrying on this winter - both in comfort and style!
